Advanced Pro Class: The Power of You - Week 1

I am at it again. I am taking another class from the amazing Brooke Snow. I love opportunities that allow me to stretch and grow. Ultimately, I am striving to give my clients a positive experience that reflects my personal style and results in images that they feel beautiful and confident in sharing and displaying.
For this week's assignment my fellow classmates and I are focusing on preparation. We were challenged to pick a new location that we had never shot at before, scout it out, prepare a detailed shot list and exhaust the location. This was a great assignment for me. I immediately had a location in mind. One of my daughters has been taking ballet and I love the building where her class is held. It has these amazing windows with lots of natural light. (see image above) It made for a perfect indoor location which for me are harder to come by. The weather the day of the session was suppose to be overcast with a significant chance of showers which made the indoor options even more ideal.
I scouted out the location with the mindset of "exhausting the location"and came away with a long list of possible sites to take pictures both indoors and outdoors.  I was more excited about the indoor spots and planned on spending more time inside then out. The weather the day of the session was a photographer's dream. It was overcast but dry. I ended up spending far more time outside then in. Because of the clouds the inside locations had a lot less light then I was hoping and the outside locations were perfect.
My shot list was a great tool. It really kept the session moving and I felt we covered a lot more ground, shot in far more spots and have a much greater variety of poses then in previous sessions. With a plan already in mind I felt I was able to focus more on the experience of my client rather then coming up with poses and locations.

I picked to share this photo because it was a spot that I noticed while I was leaving the location on the day of the scouting expedition. I glanced over my shoulder and down the sidewalk and thought "Oh I love that wall" and added it to my list of shooting spots.

This photo was just one of my favorites from the session. I love working with young adults. To see more photos from this session check out this post

Last week I had the opportunity to take pictures of this beautiful teenager. We had such a fun session laughing and enjoying the perfect photography weather. Here are a few of my favorites from the session.

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words.

If you know my Allie then you know this picture is so her! I can't help but chuckle when I look at this photo. Do you have photos you love to look at? Are they lost on your hard drive hidden from the human eye? I love the digital camera. I love that I can take hundreds if not thousands of photos and then only keep the best ones with no cost. What I don't love about digital is how many photos are never developed and put into a format that can be displayed for all to enjoy. Sure I can share it on facebook but it will still get lost among the thousands of daily updates.
How and where do you display your priceless snapshots that capture your everyday life? Here are a few ideas:

Click on the Studio J layout to see it larger.

  • A photo board in your kitchen that you update regularly with new pictures.
  • Digital picture frame - they have really cool ones now that you can actually email photos to and it automatically updates the frame. Great gift idea!
  • Studio J or Classic scrapbook page! Ok this is probably my favorite suggestion. I love a good scrapbook layout and so do my kids. This is also a fabulous long term solution. My whole family enjoy looking at their albums and naming the people in the pictures. With family spread all over the country this helps my kids especially get to know and recognize their relatives so that when we do get together they aren't complete strangers.  You can also find 12x12 frames and display your most recent completed layout on the wall. You should be proud of your work and show it off a little.

So what is your favorite way to display your favorite photos? I would love to hear your ideas.

It is graduation time! I just love the energy and youthfulness of a high school senior. Jordan is no exception. He is an amazing guy. Humble, good natured (especially when I had him posing on the busiest street in all of cache valley) and HOT! Don't you love those eyes! Jordan, I know, if you are reading this, you are totally rolling those gorgeous eyes at me but face the facts you are a good looking guy! Here are just a few of my favorites from Jordan's senior gallery.

Studio J Love

I have another Studio J layout to share with you today. I am a very goal oriented person. I set personal goals all the time. Just a few I am working on right now are 1. Don't eat any candy (I get one treat on Sunday) 2. Don't yell or loose my temper with my kids. (I am ambitious) 3. Complete and order minimum of 4 Studio J layouts each month (this sounds like the funnest and easiest goal of the 3!) Well so far I am doing really good at  finishing and ordering my Studio J layouts. ;) This is the one of the layouts I created last month. It was so fast and easy with those darn stickease. Do you like the lace boarder I created with the stickease? I also love how I can just drag and drop in photos and they are automatically cropped and re-sized to fit the photo wells. Sure saves me time from having to crop and print photos.

Would you like to create you own layouts with this super easy, user friendly, free, online program? Just head on over to my website, create your free account and start playing. You only pay to have your layouts printed.

Seriously I am Dotty for this Paper!

I am loving the Dotty For you paper packet! I created the card on the left for my card swap group. The polka-dot paper is from the back side of the paper shown below.  You have the crazy fun patterns on the front and polka-dot paper in the same coordinating colors on the back.  I will admit I have already ordered two packs of the paper! In addition to the Dotty for You  paper, I used the "Just for You" stamp set  to create the flower and some of that must have Baker's Twine Paradise Assortment for the bow in the button and wrapped around the bottom of the card.

So how do you get your own Dotty for You paper packet? For every $35 in products your purchase from the Spring/Summer 2012 Idea Book (between April 17 and May 31) you qualify for a Dotty for You paper packet ($19.95 value) for just $5. Dotty for You includes 24 specially designed, cardstock weight, coordinating B&T Duos® sheets (2 each of 12 patterns) and an artwork idea insert.

There are also two ways you can get this darling paper packet FREE!
  •  Hostesses will receive a free Dotty for You paper packet when their Gathering sales total $400 or more (excluding tax, shipping/handling, and Operation Smile donations).
  • Anyone who signs up as a new Consultant with CTMH from now through May 31 gets one FREE with their kit (which is a STEAL!  It's only $99 and you get over $300 in products!).To sign up, head to my website, click on "Opportunities" and then "Be a Consultant." Easy, peasy, lemon squeasy!
